Which EVs have been stolen?

There wasn’t a single fully electric car in the UK’s top 20 theft rankings for 2025. With more people owning EVs and more on the road, there are now four fully electric cars in the opening half of 2026’s top 20:

• Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate EV
• Hyundai Ioniq 5 Premium EV
• Kia Niro 2 EV
• Kia Niro 4 EV

Nissan Juke takes over from Toyota's hybrid Dynamic

The Nissan Juke Tekna CVT (a petrol model) is now the UK’s most targeted vehicle with 197 thefts over six months - a 19% year-on-year rise.

Although it’s been discontinued since 2023, seven Ford Fiesta variants appear in the top 20 - although combined thefts across these times are down 35.5% year on year.

It’s also worth noting there are millions of Fiestas in the car parc (total number of registered motor vehicles actively in use). This means that with the Fiesta being the top selling car for decades, the likelihood yours might be the one stolen could actually be quite low.

• At the current rate, 138 cars are stolen every day across the UK

The total number of recorded stolen cars over the first six months of 2026 is 25,050 - one every 10 minutes and 24 seconds.

EV drivers have to make sure their companion app is locked. Here are just a few EV security habits that can make a real difference:

• Set a PIN or biometric lock on your EV’s companion app
• Keep your key or fob in a Faraday cage
• Park frontwards to block any access to wiring
• Lock EV charging cables in place to stop component theft
• Keep your car's software updated
• Don't leave the app logged in on an unlocked phone
• Keep physical keys away from your front door
