Am I eligible for temporary electric car insurance?
To get temporary electric car insurance, you must
- Be aged 17-77 years old.
- Have no criminal convictions.
- Not had a previous policy of insurance declared void by an insurer.
To get temporary electric car insurance, your car must
- Be taxed and in a roadworthy condition with a current and valid MOT (unless you are using the insurance policy to take the vehicle to a pre-booked MOT).
- Not be a hired or rented vehicle.
- Not be modified in any way except if designed to aid disabled drivers.
- Be a right-hand drive car with no more than 8 seats.
- Not be declared SORN (unless you are using the insurance policy to take the vehicle to a pre-booked MOT).

Yes, there has been an electric vehicle tax since 1 April, 2025. This rate varies depending on when the car was registered:
- Registered on or after 1 April, 2025: £10 for first year, £195 per year thereafter.
- Registered between 1 April, 2017 and 31 March, 2025: £195 per year.
- Registered between 1 March, 2001 and 31 March, 2017: £20 per year.
If your electric vehicle has a leased battery, it’s unlikely you will be able to get a quote for temporary insurance. Our comprehensive policies cover electric vehicles with batteries included.
