The do’s and don’ts of being a Passenger Prince

Men still prefer the driver’s seat in relationships, with 62% saying they’d rather drive than let their partner take the wheel. Why? According to our research, 45% think they’re a better driver and 42% like to be in control of the car.

Meanwhile, the Passenger Princess trend has been cruising steadily since it first went viral on TikTok – racking up over 400+ million posts to date.

Passenger Princesses have mastered the art of in-car luxury – pampered, carefree and blissfully not driving. Maybe it’s time more men gave up the wheel and embraced the passenger seat too.

Online Passenger Theory Test

By royal decree, Tempcover presents the Passenger Prince. Complete our online ‘theory test’ to see if your passenger behaviour is fit for a prince. We’re encouraging women (or anyone looking to switch up the usual driving dynamic) to take the wheel with temporary car insurance behind them.

And for men (or anyone who backseat drives) out there, it’s time to let go, relax and discover the joy of being chauffeured – and maybe even a little pampered too.

Physical Passenger Lessons

Or go one step further and turn every car ride into a smoother, stress-free experience with the world’s first passenger lessons from award-winning PSM Driving School. These fun, hands-on lessons are designed to help anyone become a calmer, more supportive, and genuinely helpful presence in the passenger seat – because great rides are a team effort. From real-life driving scenarios to simple ways to keep the vibe right, you’ll learn how to be the kind of passenger every driver dreams of. Book your Passenger Prince lesson with PSM Driving School at [email protected]. T&Cs apply*

What is a Passenger Prince?

Much like Passenger Princesses, Passenger Princes embrace luxury by empowering their partner to take to the wheel. They opt for a relaxed, enjoyable ride – discovering the joys of being chauffeured, and maybe even a little pampered along the way.

Who can be a Passenger Prince?

Anyone! You can drive your fella’s car and let him take his throne as the Passenger Prince with temporary car insurance. Flexible and comprehensive, it’s a quick and easy way to sort cover to drive someone else’s car.

After his coronation, your Passenger Prince must agree to the following oaths…

Oaths

As Passenger Prince, I solemnly swear to…

  • Be helpful and respectful at all times: Passenger Princes don’t mansplain or tell the driver where they went wrong. Instead, they are calm, clear and collected as they help a driver rectify any situation.
  • Keep things safe: Transporting a cake or something breakable for a right royal celebration? Passenger Princes keep things steady, no matter how far the journey.
  • Stay awake: One of the duties of a Passenger Prince is to keep the driver company. To do this, they’ll need to keep their eyes open. This will also help them alert the driver to any upcoming hazards.

As Passenger Prince, I solemnly swear to avoid…

  • Being a backseat driver: Passenger Princes don’t touch the controls or tell drivers where or how they could do better. Instead, they’re supportive and understanding.
  • Raising my voice: A Passenger Prince has a reputation to uphold and shouting and screaming is not regal behaviour. Arguments – especially of the political variety – are very much avoided.
  • Eating and drinking without permission: A Passenger Prince is definitely in charge of shared snacks, but smelly egg sandwiches? That’s a big no-no.

If you are a Passenger Prince (or want to give one his Coronation), don’t forget the peace of mind that temporary car insurance can bring.
