Check out the cars to get excited about in 2019

2019 looks to be a big year for the car industry with plenty of exciting releases already planned. There are huge updates for a number of big-name models plus several,  very different new cars set to hit the market.

So, if you’re on the lookout for a new set of wheels this year there’s plenty for you to get excited about.

We finally see the release of the raft of electric cars announced in the last few years including some huge names like Porsche and Aston Martin.

Drivers will also get a chance to try out the new versions of modern classics including the updated Corsa and brand-new Golf.

Regardless of your preference or budget – whether you’re a fan of the classics or want something brand new and especially if you’re planning to go green in 2019, there’s going to be something to rev your engine this year.

To give you just a sneak peek of the wide range of new cars set to be released this year, here are 10 new cars we think you should be excited about in 2019.

  1. Mini EV – £30,000-£35,000 est

With 2019 set to be the year that electric cars go totally mainstream where better to start then with the first ever electric version of this iconic vehicle.

It’s been arguably the most talked about new release and for very good reason. The EV comes with some stylish new design touches such as the highlighter yellow accents and feature grille. It does, however, manage to keep the traditional look and feel of a modern Mini hatchback.

While the exterior has been paraded for all to see, not much is known about what’s going on internally. It’s believed to be powered by the same 181 brake horsepower electric motor as the BMW i3 S as well as the same lithium-ion battery pack. This would give the electric Mini a range of around 200 miles.

  1. 2019 Vauxhall Corsa – £10,000 est

Just one of many classic models that are getting a fresh new look in 2019, the new Vauxhall Corsa is the first edition released since the company were taken over by Citroën and Peugeot owners the PSA Group.

This has meant that the 2019 edition will share many parts with the groups other new small car release, the Peugeot 208. Despite sharing parts, the designers have promised a sleek and exciting design plus a rejigged interior to provide more rear seat and boot space.

While we’re getting a brand new Corsa this year, plans are already being put in place e.g. the all-new underpinnings in preparation for the electric version, the eCorsa which is set to be released in 2020.

  1. Audi A9 – £100,000 est

Another car that’s waiting till the last minute to reveal its full look, albeit one that’s quite a bit more expensive. The A9, which is expected to draw heavily from the Prologue Concept unveiled back in 2014 is Audi’s attempt to take on other high-end big hitters like the BMW 8-Series.

The traditional two-door coupe design will come packed with exciting modern features including autonomous technology and wiring charging capabilities for its 95kWh battery pack.

The autonomous tech will allow drivers to sit back and relax in traffic as the A9 is able to guide itself on motorways at speeds of up to 37mph. It also packs a super impressive 310-mile range giving you plenty for the truckload of cash you’ll need to splash to get your hands on one.

  1. 2019 Mazda 3 – £18,000 est

The brand new Mazda 3 is set to turn heads and fully establish itself in the family hatchback market in 2019. The first and most obvious thing to say about it is just how beautiful it looks. It’s sleek flowing lines and withdrawn windscreen gives it the look of a high-end model.

There’s also plenty to enjoy inside the 3 with a brand new 8.8-inch infotainment system and redesigned seats for more space and comfort.

Mazda has promised improved response and a more efficient engine with its new SkyActive-X supercharged petrol motor which will give owners 30% more efficiency over a standard petrol engine.

  1. Cupra Ibiza – £20,000 est

Seat’s boy-racer spin-off, Cupra has its second release as a solo operation with the Ibiza. Built for speed and manoeuvring with its 200bhp engine and nimble cornering, this hot hatchback is certainly going to garner some serious attention this year.

Few details are known about the specs, but it’s expected to come with a dual-clutch automatic gearbox as standard. One thing we do know is you’ll get an aggressive looking car both inside and out. There’re copper finishes on the wheels and copper detailing inside which give it a raw, industrial feel.

  1. Honda Urban EV – £25,000 est

For striking looks alone, the Honda Urban EV is the most exciting car on this list. Jumping straight from a 70’s sci-fi comic, this is the type of car we all assumed we’d be driving in 2019.

Its smaller dimensions make it ideal for bustling roads and smaller side streets and it’s driving range of 150-200 miles mean that you won’t see many outside a city.

Inside you’ll get a wide touchscreen infotainment system as the centre of a minimalist interior which totally fits with its futuristic look.

  1. 2019 Porsche 911 – £90,000 est

Back to the higher end of the market now and we have the eight generation of the iconic 911. Despite being the brands most famous model, the team behind the 2019 edition have not been afraid to make some big changes.

The overall look and feel are essentially the same but under the bonnet, things have had a big revamp. All editions will come with a turbocharged engine with two four-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid versions coming in 2020.

All variants will boast more power than in previous years with the Carrera S model producing an extra 30bhp. According to Whatcar, this cuts the 0-62mph time from 4.1 seconds to just 3.7.

There’s a whole new look internally with a jazzy new 10.9in touchscreen monitor which houses the Porsche Communication Management system at the centre.

  1. Aston Martin RapidE – £200,000 est

Aston Martin’s first all-electric car marks a new era for the company and as you’d expect it’s at the higher end of the market both in terms of performance and price.

Powered by an 800V battery electrical architecture with 65kWh capacity, the RapidE boasts a reported range of over 200 miles with a projected top speed of 155mph – one of the highest currently available for an electric road car. You’ll also get a sub 4.0 second 0-60mph time.

Aston Martin has used their successful Rapide S as a shell for the new model but have promised to enhance the feel, character and delivery of the original model.

There’s set to be a limited run of the RapidE with an eye-watering starting price of around £200,000.

  1. Citroen C5 Aircross – £23,000 est

2018 was obviously the year of the SUV but it’s taken until 2019 for Citroen to release the model they hope will battle the Nissan Qashqai.  The C5 Aircross will be a spacious and practical SUV that puts daring modern looks and comfort above traditional sportiness.

Packing more than enough space for five and a 720-litre boot, the Aircross also competes in the power department. Owners can choose between 121bhp and 181bhp petrol and diesel engines and there’s also a nifty little feature called Grip Control which improves traction in wet conditions.

  1.  Mercedes-AMG Project One – £2,000,000 est

For the 300 odd people lucky enough to be able to afford one, you’ll get a 217mph top speed and a 0-124mph time of under six seconds.

Of course, it doesn’t come cheap but despite its multi-million-pound price tag, all of the cars produced have already been snapped up.
