When would I need car insurance for the weekend?

If you’re planning a weekend away or just need to borrow a vehicle at the end of the week, weekend insurance could be the best way to ensure you’re properly covered.

Only paying for the time you need means you’re not forking out for expensive and unnecessary long-term cover.

Weekends are a great opportunity to meet friends, go on trips, or spend time with the family. If you’re using a car you’re not already insured to drive, you’ll want cover that’s fast and flexible to suit whatever you’ve got planned.

  • Borrowing a friend’s car for the weekend – Using a friend’s car is cheaper than hiring one. Also, when you insure with temporary insurance, their policy and No Claims Discount won’t be affected.
  • Having a weekend away – Having flexible insurance for just the time you’re away is ideal for keeping costs down. Make sure you only pay for the day or two you need with Tempcover.
  • Getting car repairs on the weekend – If your vehicle ends up off the road longer than expected, even up to a month, you can get cover to use another vehicle without a long-term commitment.
  • Driving away a new car – If you’re picking up a new car over the weekend, you’ll need insurance to drive it home – get it for a few hours, days, or weeks while you arrange your annual insurance.

What does weekend car insurance cover?

As with all our temporary policies, our weekend car insurance means you get comprehensive cover as standard. This means you’re insured against any damage to the vehicle you’re using and any other third parties.

What’s covered with weekend insurance

What’s not covered with weekend insurance

Fully comprehensive insurance The excess you agreed to pay
Accidental and malicious damage to your car Release from an impound (unless you buy a specific temporary impounded vehicle policy)
Legal liabilities for injury or damage to another person or their property Additional drivers – we can only cover the driver named on the policy
Driving in the UK, and in some instances driving in the EU

To find the cheapest weekend car insurance, we work with a panel of insurers. This means we’re able to provide a range of cover, find you the best possible prices, and cover as many drivers as possible. Because of this, full details of cover may differ depending on the insurer. Please double-check the policy wording before buying to confirm what your policy specifically covers.

Can I insure my car for more or less than a weekend?

nfortunately, the weekends don’t last longer, but you can get cover that does. Our temporary car insurance policies last however long you need them to.

If you only need to pop from A to B and back, we can provide temporary 1 day car insurance or even just 1 hour car insurance.

If you need longer, you can get car insurance for a week, though the longest our panel of insurers can offer in a single temporary agreement is a 1-month car insurance policy. To get longer, you’d simply need to take out two or more policies to run one after the other.

Why choose two day insurance for your weekend?

Not having insurance, even if you’re just borrowing a friend’s car for the weekend, is illegal and you could face an unlimited fine.
