If the idea of paying out hundreds of pounds towards the cost of a claim sounds scary, you could find that excess reduction is the ideal add-on to your temporary policy.
We offer excess reduction to your temporary car, van, or motorbike policy for peace of mind on the road and to ensure you get the cover you want.
What is excess reduction?
Excess reduction is an add-on available with some temporary insurance products that will reduce the amount you have to pay if you make a claim.
If you choose to add excess reduction to your policy, in the unfortunate event you need to make a claim, you will receive a proportion of the total excess back after the payment is made.
At what can be a stressful time, having excess reduction can help reduce some of the financial burdens of having an accident.
Do I need excess reduction?
Like all additional extras, you don’t need to purchase excess reduction to get a temporary insurance policy from Tempcover.
You should consider your circumstances before adding it to your policy. If you are able to pay the agreed excess, you may not need to purchase excess reduction, however, if the idea of paying hundreds of pounds towards the cost of a claim is something you can’t afford, it could help to cut costs in the long run.
Like all insurance, you may not need to use it, but it can provide a little bit of security if the worst happens. For a small initial fee, you could save yourself hundreds of pounds in the event of a claim.
The amount you could reduce your excess by will be displayed alongside the cost of this added extra when you receive your insurance quote. You can then decide if this added extra will meet your needs.
You’re covered with excess reduction
With excess reduction you’ll receive a proportion of your excess back if your claim is as a result of one of the following:

- Flood or Vandalism
- An accident that was your fault.
How much does excess reduction cost?
The cost of adding excess reduction depends on the duration of your policy and the level of protection offered. Your quotation will clearly detail the cover and premium.
