What does breakdown cover insure me for?

Our breakdown cover gives you peace of mind that you’ll be able to get help if you break down…

  • At the roadside: For customers who need assistance ¼ mile or more away from their home address as detailed in the Motor Insurance Policy and recovery to a local repairer.
  • At Home: For customers who need assistance in the event they breakdown at their home address as detailed on the Motor Insurance Policy and recovery to a local repairer.
  • For National Recovery: For Customers who if we are unable to repair the vehicle, need their vehicle to be recovered to a single destination of their choice.

What vehicles are covered under breakdown cover?

You can purchase breakdown cover for private cars, commercial vehicles, and motorbikes.

Please note that for commercial vehicles there is a maximum vehicle weight of 3.5 tonnes and a maximum vehicle width no wider than 2.55m.

Assistance will be provided for a caravan or trailer which was being towed at the time of the breakdown, providing it also falls within the above limits.

Who should I contact if I breakdown?

Our dedicated breakdown team are here to help you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. If you have broken down and require assistance, please call the AA on 0800 420 420 and be ready to provide the vehicle registration number.

It is important that you contact the AA when you break down. If you contact a garage direct you will have to settle the bill and the AA will not be obliged to reimburse you.

What should I do if I breakdown?

If your car has broken down, here’s what to do to stay safe before you call the AA and while they are on their way to you.

  1. Make sure you are in a safe place. Move your vehicle off the road if possible or pull up onto the hard shoulder if you are on the motorway.
  1. Stay well away from moving traffic – it is usually safest to get out of your car (using the doors facing away from passing traffic) and wait behind a barrier.
  1. Put your hazard warning lights on and wear a reflective jacket if you have one.
  1. Once you are safe, give us a call on 0800 420 420 and we will come and rescue you.

Where am I covered for breakdown cover?

For breakdown assistance at your home address, or at the roadside in England, Wales, Mainland Scotland and Northern Ireland only.

Breakdown cover is not available for travel outside of England, Wales, Mainland Scotland & Northern Ireland.

How can I purchase breakdown cover?

If breakdown cover is available, it will be offered to you at the time you are presented with your quote for short term insurance.

Currently, breakdown cover is only available to purchase alongside our standard car, van, and motorbike policies from 1 hour to 28 days in duration.

How soon can I use my cover?

Providing your policy has started there is no limit to how soon you can use your breakdown cover policy.

Can I change the vehicle insured on my breakdown cover policy?

No. In line with our terms and conditions of cover, once a policy has been purchased it is not possible to make any changes or additions to the policy and the same applies to breakdown cover.

Can I cancel my breakdown cover policy?

You may cancel your breakdown cover before the policy commences by contacting us at contactus@tempcover.com

Providing the policy has not yet started, we will then refund the premium back to the original payment card.

If the policy has already started when you contact us, you may cancel it, provided no claims have been made or are pending. However, no refund of premium will be payable in line with our terms and conditions of cover.
