Can I take out multiple policies?

Learning to drive can be a long process, so should you need additional cover once your first policy has expired, you can purchase another learner policy for up to 28 days in advance, for a minimum period of 7 days, up to 90 days.

Who can supervise me under this policy?

As per the DVLA guidelines, you are required by law to be supervised as a provisional driver. Your supervisor will need to meet the following requirements:

Anyone you practise your driving with (without paying them) must:

  • be over 21
  • be qualified to drive the type of vehicle you want to learn in, for example, they must have a manual car licence if they’re supervising you in a manual car
  • have had their full driving licence for 3 years (from the UK, the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein)

You can be fined up to £1,000 and get up to 6 penalty points on your provisional licence if you drive without the right supervision.

You can drive with as many passengers as the vehicle can legally hold.

Why can’t I get a quote?

If after submitting your application you have not been offered a quote by any of our insurers this may be due to a combination of factors such as your age, the duration that you’ve held your licence and the vehicle you’re looking to insure.

We can only insure learner drivers who are up to 24 years of age, so if you are over this age we won’t be able to assist you with a learner driver policy.

It may be that one or all of these factors do not meet our insurers acceptance criteria and unfortunately, we cannot change the outcome of this for you. Do pop back again in the future; we constantly review our acceptance criteria and work hard with our insurers to provide quotes for our customers.

What happens to my policy when I pass my test?

Once you’ve passed your test, you will no longer be a Learner Driver and therefore we would not permit you to drive against the Learner Driver policy. Our current insurers will only insure a Full License holder with a minimum license length of 6 months, so unfortunately we won’t be able to insure you straight away on our private car scheme.

Can I have more than one driver?

Currently our policies only permit 1 driver per policy. Whilst we may offer this feature in the future, currently if you require 2 drivers – you will need two separate applications/policies to cover two people on the same vehicle.

Don’t worry, the policies don’t interfere with each other, so this won’t cause any issues with the either policy.

Do I need to be the vehicle owner?

Currently, our policies only permit 1 driver per policy, but you don’t need to be the vehicle owner to take out insurance with us. As long as you have the owner’s permission, and the vehicle is not a rental, hire, or lease vehicle of fewer than 90 days’ duration, we can permit cover on that basis (subject to application).

Can I insure my SORN vehicle?

As long as your vehicle is in a roadworthy condition, and you either have tax or will tax the vehicle with our insurance certificate, we can allow insurance for this purpose. The vehicle must have a current MOT or you must have a pre-booked MOT appointment to attend whilst insured with us in order for the insurance to be valid.

Why won’t you accept my licence number?

Sometimes when purchasing a policy, you’ll be asked to provide your licence number. If you’re getting a message that states the information does not match or isn’t valid, you’ll need to follow these steps:

  • Check your licence is UK registered (Northern Ireland and Isle of Man have a different format, and sadly, therefore, can’t be accepted)
  • Check your first and last name are spelt correctly, and you haven’t used a nickname or different name on the form itself
  • Check your date of birth is entered correctly
  • Check that the licence number you’re giving belongs to the driver you’re insuring
  • Check that you’re not accidentally entering a number instead of a letter, for example, “0” not “O”

Once you’ve checked all of these things, we’re pretty confident you won’t have any further issues.

What details do I need to apply for Tempcover?

You’ll need all the details of the driver who wishes to take out the insurance, including their contact details, address, date of birth, and details of the vehicle. It also helps to have the license number handy because you may be asked to provide this throughout the application.

Do you provide No Claims Bonus?

No Claims Bonus is not applicable to short term policies, so whilst any existing No Claims Bonus is unaffected by our policies, we can’t produce any proof of no claims for this reason.

When will my vehicle show on AskMID?

The details of the Motor Insurers Database will be shown on your Policy Confirmation email.

Once you’ve purchased a temporary insurance policy, your insurance details will shortly be passed to the Motor Insurance Database (MID). We have a time to supply to the Database of 7 days and so due to the short-term nature of your policy, it is possible your policy may have expired before the details appear on askMID.

We recommend that you print your Insurance Certificate and have this with you as this remains valid proof of your insurance and legal entitlement to drive the vehicle.
