With our van policies, it will depend on the usage you select, but as standard, you will be covered for social, domestic and pleasure use including to and from various places of work and also for the carriage of your own goods in connection with your business. Please be aware, there is no cover for any goods carried in or on the vehicle, so you’ll need to find a separate policy with another provider to cover those goods.
Types of work we can generally permit under our policies:
Types of work we cannot permit under our policies:
We can look to insure vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes with our Temporary Van Insurance.
The types of vans we can look to insure are as follows:
All vans must have a maximum of 5 seats to be considered, we do not cover minibuses for this reason.
If after submitting your application you have not been offered a quote by any of our insurers this may be due to a combination of factors such as your age, the duration that you’ve held your licence and the vehicle you’re looking to insure. It may be that one or all of these factors do not meet our insurers acceptance criteria and unfortunately, we cannot change the outcome of this for you. Do pop back again in the future; we constantly review our acceptance criteria and work hard with our insurers to provide quotes for our customers.
Currently our policies only permit 1 driver per policy. Whilst we may offer this feature in the future, currently if you require 2 drivers – you will need two separate applications/policies to cover two people on the same vehicle.
Don’t worry, the policies don’t interfere with each other, so this won’t cause any issues with the either policy.
Tempcover policies cover social domestic and pleasure use and commuting to and from one place of work. If you need further cover, for example travelling to various places of work or class 1 business use – each insurer has a different level of cover, so you should check the Insurers Declaration after your quote has been generated to see if they offer suitable terms for you. It’s important to check the Insurers Declaration for any excluded occupations before purchasing to ensure that what you do for work is something we can support with our insurance, this will be displayed to you after a quote has been generated before payment stage.
Tempcover is designed for short term use, so we would not recommend using the service over a long period of time. However, if you need to insure your car for a few months at a time, you can purchase our insurance up to 28 days in advance, for a maximum of 28 days, and repeat purchase if necessary.
Yes, you can tax your vehicle with our temporary policies. You can do this either online via the DVLA website, or in your local post office with your insurance documentation.
Currently, our policies only permit 1 driver per policy, but you don’t need to be the vehicle owner to take out insurance with us. As long as you have the owner’s permission, and the vehicle is not a rental, hire, or lease vehicle of fewer than 90 days’ duration, we can permit cover on that basis (subject to application).
As long as your vehicle is in a roadworthy condition, and you either have tax or will tax the vehicle with our insurance certificate, we can allow insurance for this purpose. The vehicle must have a current MOT or you must have a pre-booked MOT appointment to attend whilst insured with us in order for the insurance to be valid.
Sometimes when purchasing a policy, you’ll be asked to provide your licence number. If you’re getting a message that states the information does not match or isn’t valid, you’ll need to follow these steps:
Once you’ve checked all of these things, we’re pretty confident you won’t have any further issues.
However, if you need us – we’re here to help! Just submit your query on the Contact Us page.
You’ll need all the details of the driver who wishes to take out the insurance, including their contact details, address, date of birth, and details of the vehicle. It also helps to have the license number handy because you may be asked to provide this throughout the application.
No Claims Bonus is not applicable to short term policies, so whilst any existing No Claims Bonus is unaffected by our policies, we can’t produce any proof of no claims for this reason.
Here at Tempcover we appreciate that when you’re trying to get a vehicle back on the road, you want it done with minimal fuss.
With our short term policies, we are given a 7 day window in which the details of a vehicle are uploaded to the MID. So if you’re looking to tax straight away after insuring with us, you may not be able to do it online but there is an alternative!
Most Post Offices’ will allow you to tax the vehicle with our insurance certificate, which you’ll receive straight after you’ve purchased online.
Give them a call before you head into town, and you should be all sorted in no time!
The details of the Motor Insurers Database will be shown on your Policy Confirmation email.
Once you’ve purchased a temporary insurance policy, your insurance details will shortly be passed to the Motor Insurance Database (MID). We have a time to supply to the Database of 7 days and so due to the short-term nature of your policy, it is possible your policy may have expired before the details appear on askMID.
We recommend that you print your Insurance Certificate and have this with you as this remains valid proof of your insurance and legal entitlement to drive the vehicle.
