For many drivers, life isn’t always straightforward, and you could be one of the thousands looking to borrow or drive a new car that you’re not already insured to use.
If you find yourself in one of these situations and you only need to use the vehicle for a few days or a week, you won’t want to pay for cover you don’t need. That’s where 1 week car insurance comes in.
Yes. A range of insurers offer a car insurance for a week as a standalone policy that’s separate to any annual policies you may have. With the limit for short term policies usually set from 1 hour to 28 days, you can insure your car for 1 week and even up to 4 weeks at a time.
Paying for an annual policy or even adjusting an existing one can be a time consuming and expensive experience. You may think that these are the only options you have, but thanks to one week car insurance, you can get the insurance you need without paying for cover you don’t.
A 7 day car insurance policy gives you the peace of mind that when you’re using someone else’s car or a car you’re not familiar with, you’re covered should something go wrong.
Getting car insurance for a week is quick and easy with Tempcover and takes just a couple of minutes. You’ll just need to answer some basic questions about yourself and the vehicle you want to drive first. This will also include some contact details, like your address, your email, and your telephone number.
To get a quote, you’ll also need the vehicle registration number and give your reason for getting 7 day car insurance.
Once you’ve entered your details, you’ll be presented with a range of quotes from our panel of insurers. Select the policy which best suits your situation – remember you can adjust the amount of excess you’re willing to pay, which could reduce the price of your policy.
You can also add several affordable extras – like UK Breakdown & misfuel cover or gadget cover – to your policy for extra peace of mind.
Now you’ve customised your policy and you’ve got the right amount of cover, you’ll visit the payment page. You can purchase your 1 week car insurance policy in a number of different ways including:
How much you pay for your car insurance will depend on a host of factors, including the model of car you want to drive and its corresponding insurance group, as well as your age and driving history. But most drivers can expect to pay around £20 a day for short term insurance cover.
7 day car insurance works in essentially the same way as any other insurance policy – apart from a few key differences.
With the policy, you get comprehensive cover as standard for the duration of the agreement. This means you’re covered against damage to any third parties, any fire damage or theft to your own vehicle, plus you’re also protected if there is any damage to the vehicle you’re driving.
Unlike other insurance options, 1 week car insurance is a separate, standalone policy which has no impact on any existing insurance on the vehicle.
By being a standalone policy, 1 week car insurance gives complete peace of mind to the driver and the vehicle owner. Any temporary car insurance policy lasts as long as you need it to, and at the end of that duration when you no longer want it, the policy expires and you don’t owe a penny.
This means that if you were to have an accident while driving someone else’s vehicle, their No Claims Discount won’t be affected. This can be essential if you’re borrowing a vehicle from someone else. Conversely, if you became a named driver on someone else’s policy and had an accident while driving, they would lose their No Claims Discount without potentially even being in the car. That’s just one of the areas where car insurance for a week makes sense.
The Motor Insurance Database (MID) is the national database for insured vehicles and it’s what insurers and authorities use to check that car insurance is in place.
When you purchase a one week car insurance policy from Tempcover, your details will be uploaded to the MID. While we do update the database daily, it can take up to seven days for the details to appear when you search for them online.
As you may guess, with a 7 day car insurance policy it’s very likely that either your details appear after your policy has started, or your policy may have even expired by the time they appear on the database.
You may be worried that this means you’re not properly insured but don’t worry, we can assure you that if you’ve purchased a policy and have received your certificate of insurance, you’re covered.
To be safe, we recommend you keep a copy of your certificate of insurance with you. You can either print it out or keep the digital copy on your phone.
